PhillyMag.com reported plans for a hotel have been proposed for the property located at 1224 Frankford Avenue in Fishtown. During a Fishtown Neighborhood Association meeting, developer Roland Kassis introduced the plans to transform the 5-story industrial building into a hotel. In addition to a hotel, Kassis also plans to add a jazz club, restaurant and banquet hall. The 125-room hotel will surround an interior outdoor courtyard.
Many Fishtown residents are in favor of the proposal while some voiced concerns with parking and excess noise. The next step is to present the plans to the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Currently, the building is used for industrial purposes and displays the Shepard Fairey mural on its side. Kassis will recreate the building with glass and brick architecture and will keep it at its current height of 5 stories.
