The Passyunk Post reported that the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is interested in opening a pop-up garden in one of two vacant lots in South Philadelphia this summer. Both lots are located in the Italian Market neighborhood on 9th and Wharton Streets and 9th and Washington Avenue. The foot traffic from Geno’s and Pat’s Steaks as well as the Italian Market could potentially drive a large amount of business.
The plan was presented last week at the Passyunk Square Civic Association meeting. Some neighbors voiced concerns over an excess of trash that could be produced due to the gardens.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society opened a garden on 1438 South Street last summer and hopes to open another in South Philly by Memorial Day Weekend.
