CurbedPhilly.com reported that Millennium Dance Company, located at 417 South Street, is expected to open by the end of this year.  The 39,000 square-foot studio will replace the former Pearl Arts & Crafts store that closed a few years back.

The new dance studio to grace South Street will feature high-profile choreographers who have worked with celebrities such as Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.

The building is over 100 years old and has been completelu remodeled in two phases to become a true dance studio and fitness center.  In the first phase, four dance studios will be located on the 9,000 square foot ground space featuring letters from the old Pearl & Arts Crafts exterior sign. The 7,000 square foot basement level will consist of an indoor track with fitness and workout space. The second floor will feature a child care center for parents participating in classes.

Phase Two will be introduced at some point in 2015 with a street art studio space on the third floor for photo and video shoots. At some point, the other available spaces will be utilized for retail.

Originally, the former art store was planned to become an arts center with a rooftop restaurant.
