On Friday, Curbed Philly reported Temple University’s new purchase of William Penn High School located at 1301 North Broad Street. Temple purchased the building for $15 million.
The school building is in walking distance from Temple’s main campus. This could be a sign of Temple’s expansion down Broad Street especially with the recent completion of the new student residency building, Morgan Hall, in summer 2013.
So far, the University plans on using the former school building as an athletic facility.
William Penn High School closed in 2010 due to the continuing fiscal crisis of the School District of Philadelphia. The former school building was listed for sale in Spring 2014 with an asking price of $15 million.
