The school formerly known as Childs Elementary, located on 17th and Tasker Streets, was sold for $1.18 million to the Metal Ventures, Inc. company. According to the Passyunk Post, the elementary school closed in 2010 and relocated to another location.
It is expected for the vacant school building to be converted into apartment units but nothing has been confirmed yet. The Passyunk Post also reported the building is expected to go to settlement at the end of June, which is the close of the School District of Philadelphia’s fiscal year.
This building is one of many former, vacant schools throughout Philadelphia that are now for sale. Hopefully, the sale of the buildings will aid the District’s growing budget deficits.
