City Council President Darrell Clarke was expected to present plans at a press conference today for a new Avenue of the Arts North project. Along with developers Bart Blatstein and Ken Scott of Beech Interplex, Clarke proposed an expansion of the Avenue of the Arts to sections of North Broad Street. According to Philadelphia Magazine, developers who contribute to this expansion will receive 10 year tax abatements on commercial construction and low-interest loans. This expansion will contribute to the revitalization of North Broad Street and its surrounding neighborhoods. Beech Interplex has developed several properties around the Temple University campus in North Philadelphia.
The press conference was held today at noon on Broad and Spring Garden Streets. More information is expected to be released soon.
